Russia is famous for its writers, sportsmen, scientists, and composers. There are many genres of music that help to understand the culture and the history of our country.
First comes Russian folk music. It's well-known all over the world as a genre which reflects the character of the Russians. It includes traditional rhythmic melodies and lyrics about everyday life, nature, and love. Traditional musical instruments like balalaika and domra usually accompany the singer's voice. Classical music plays an important part in Russian musical sphere. There are hundreds of talented composers whose music is known all around the world. The melodies are usually very catchy and beautiful. Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff are among the first on the list of the greatest Russian composers. The melodies were written decades ago, but still many of them are popular with people as these moving sounds inspire them.
Russian pop music gained huge popularity only at the beginning of the 1980s. Talented songwriters began writing the lyrics, and the hits are still well known. The topics used to be quite simple but the songs were really great. The first pop music companies started in the early 2000s and formed music charts. Rock music also became popular in the 1980s. Such Russian bands as "Kino" became famous and their songs are as popular as any other genres of music. Rock songs usually tell about social items and national values.
Modern times in the Russian music history have brought such a genre as hip-hop. The lyrics is about everyday life, its obstacles, and moral values. This genre is quite popular with teenagers and helps them to describe life around them.
