Peter the Great played an important role in the history of Russia. He was born on June 9, 1672 in Russia. He became Tsar of Russia at the age of ten. He liked reading and had many hobbies like horse riding and collecting. Peter the Great was a well-built, dark-eyed tall man. His height was 2 metres 4 centimetres. He was broad-shouldered and fit because of his love for outdoor activities.
His greatest idea was to make Russia the most famous country and the strongest empire. He used to travel to Western Europe a lot to learn about new technologies. He regularly visited England and the Netherlands where he studied shipbuilding. He also improved the army and changed the educational system. He made people learn science and arts. People began speaking foreign languages under his rule.
Peter the Great was the founder of St. Petersburg. It became the new modern capital of Russia in 1712 and was named after him. St. Petersburg is still known for its canals and architecture. Peter the Great was a strong leader and took part in many successful wars. He insisted on making the territory of Russia bigger. Since those times, Russia has become the largest country in the world.
Tourists can visit the house of Peter the Great, a small wooden house, which is a museum now. It used to be the place where Peter the Great lived for some time. The house is quite small, just 60 square metres. In the nearest park, there is a bronze statue of him. It's a real pleasure to walk in the park and enjoy the flowers which were brought to Russia many years ago.
Peter the Great died in 1725. We can read about him in books and watch documentaries.

The history of a computer began many years ago. At the end of the Middle Ages, people started thinking math and engineering were important. In 1623, Wilhelm Schickard A_____ a mechanical calculator. Other Europeans started to make more calculators after him. They were not modern computers because they could only add, subtract, and multiply. Charles Babbage wanted to make a machine that could calculate. He called it "The Analytical Engine". But Babbage did not have B_____ money.
